About us

We are 3 geechee girls who came together so our culture won't die. Being a geechee girl is more than just a name we are a people. We are different from all the rest we have our own ways of doing things and we have our very own language that we only understand. Let's meet the 3 girls behind the blog

Kita
Born and raised in Charleston, SC and now living in Atlanta, GA Kita is a blunt and straight to the point person. Having graduated from Burke High school in the heart of downtown Kita takes her culture and her home seriously. Kita is a wife, mother, and strong black women who always says her heart is in Chucktown but her home is in Atlanta. Kita is a SAHM looking for work but loves to blog in her free time she also is the editor and chief of Kokoa Magazine . Kita has a way with words and loves to make people laugh some of her hobbies include reading, writing, cooking, and spending time staying inside.
What does Geechee mean to Kita? Geechee to me is a direct dialoge of Gullah. Gullah is the mixture of the English and African languages, that was spoken by slaves who were required to learn English, but still didn't want the masters to know exactly what they were saying.

 PenTherapee
Born and partially raised in chasstun, but don't sleep all her ruts are tied to the chuck!  Mama, daddy and she.  Being the daughter of an army soldier her family got stationed in SoCal.  So California is her address but chasstun is her home. Growing up geechee she realized her southern ruts were very different from other southern  black folks. It also meant there was no shortage of red rice, fried fush, crab cracks, okra soup, rice, Lima beans etc.. Doing a lot of her rearing with her grandma Florence L. Mack and Alice Legare on 50 america st. there were strong ties to Ebenezer AME, piggly wiggly, the battree and Mt. Pleasant. Having 4 generations in the same house on 'merica st. she has no confusion on she gullah ruts.  She is a mama of 2, and a wife and with both she counts as blessings in ee life.  She looks at trials as life's lessons so her learning never stops.  She orders her futs as such, God, family then everything else.  PT greatest qualities are her spirit of service, her loyalty and her wicked sense of humor...she believes laughing is the cure to a lot so she stay grinnun
What does being geechee mean to PT?
It's all I knoh! It took til now to realize geechee is not just a slang it's a people...a culture within a culture.  We are all southern black people brought here under false pretenses however, the coast of the Carolina shores retained a great deal of the African tradition which translated into Gullah.  That's the tree I'm blessed from and to have mi entire family from there there's no way out and I'm glad about it!
